Demographics are statistics describing aspects of the human population, such as age or income.

The next five questions deal with the population of the United States, which was about 309 million in 2010.

To keep it simple, use 309 (instead of 309,000,000) in your calculations. But don't forget that we're talking about millions, so be sure to add the word "million" at the end.

In 2010, a little over 13% of the population lived below the poverty line. Given that the population of the US was 309 million in 2010, about how many Americans lived below the poverty line?

Round your answer to the nearest million. For example, 1.4 million would round down to 1 million, 1.5 million would round up to 2 million.
