What Does Percent Chance Mean?: Activity 2 of 3

DictionaryCalculator

Directions

For small probabilities, it's better not to use percents.

For instance, the chance that you'll be killed by lightning in the next year is less than 1 out of a million (or 1/1,000,000). Divide 1 by 1,000,000, move the decimal point two places to the right, and you get .0001%. "1 out of a million" is a lot easier to grasp.

This is the average risk! But if you’re in the habit of standing near tall trees in the middle of open fields, your risk will be much higher!
