Heat: Math Lesson
Wrap-up
The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum shows different types of wave energy, from gamma rays to radio waves. Think about the spectrum the next time you use a microwave, talk on your cell, or lie on a beach soaking up the sun.
In this lesson you:
- Learned the definitions of wavelength and frequency
- Examined the relationship between wavelength and frequency
- Used exponents to represent very large and very small numbers
On your own:
- Find examples in your own life of direct and inverse relationships. For example: the more TV you watch, the more/less_______ (e.g. the more junk food you inadvertently eat?). The less sleep you get, the more/less________. The more time your kids spend on homework, the more/less___________.
- Find out the meaning of AM and FM radio. It’s all about the waves!
- Practice calculating exponents using a variety of bases and powers, including negative exponents.
- Get a ruler that measures both inches and centimeters. Practice taking measurements with each system.
