Grammar and Punctuation
Wrap-up
Whether you’re cutting hair or writing a report, it’s important to know your craft through and through. If you have to do any writing on the job, you will look more professional if you use the right punctuation.
In this lesson you:
- Chose possessive and plural forms of words
- Identified correct contractions
- Selected the correct forms of verbs
On your own:
- When you read a newspaper or magazine article, don’t just read for meaning. See how the writer used verb tenses, contractions, and apostrophes. Can you catch any mistakes?
- Practice your apostrophes by making a list of things in your house and then writing to whom they belong. For example, you might write “John’s pen” or “Maria’s book.”
- As you walk around your neighborhood, look carefully at the words on signs, billboards, and other printed materials. How many punctuation errors can you spot?
